About Bobby and Brooke
We are a Colorado Springs based couple with our hearts set on finding family wherever we go and exploring to no end. We've just recently embarked on a year-ish long trip around the world. Apart for this trip, we love the outdoors, dinners with friends, good reads, great beers, and enjoying the big and small of life.
We are who we are because of our community. How we understand these two things (Community and Identity) has significantly shaped the way we see the world, each other, and our place here on our beautiful Mamma Planet Earth. For the last 6 years of our marriage (and 12 years of togetherness - we started dating when we were 15!), we have invited and allowed community to inform who we are and we help contribute to the collective identity of our community around us. But what do we mean by this, really?
We mean a few things.
For starters, community is not just the people we drink beer with (Mandarin IPA's being a current favorite). Community is the vast network of relationships around us that makes existence possible. And so, identity is necessarily informed by community, and our community is informed by our identity. This means that when my next door neighbor gets evicted, we feel that with them. It means when the broncos win the Superbowl, we win the Superbowl, and when the trees are cleared to make way for housing development or a coffee shop goes in down the street, or St. Paul and the Broken Bones or another blues funk band is in town, our identity is affected, if we know it or not. We have learned that we relate to the buildings, the trails, the plants and animals, music and food just as much as we relate to the people around us. The best part? We have the role and responsibility to help reflect the identity of the community back to itself - we are actors in a narrative that unfolds each day, and we get to help write the script!
Where has this led us? We know that who we are is much larger than our social media accounts, our bank accounts, friend groups, or our jobs and hobbies. Our community has expanded beyond our friends, our trails, our state, or our country, God bless it. We live in a global village! Yep, global kinship.
It's partly because of this that we choose to travel. Of course we want to lay out on beaches in Thailand, climb mountains in Italy, and play soccer in Zambia. But still deeper than all of this is a hunger not only to see the world, but to know the world, and in the process know ourselves better. This trip is our play therapy.
More about Bobby
Bobby is a colorblind goober who is a lover of all things living, and kinesthetic to the core. He's a natural born monkey-boy who's at the top of trees in seconds, and on any given Saturday afternoon, you'll find him shirtless tending to the hops in his garden or tinkering in his man cave. He's got compassion out the wazoo for the most vulnerable people in existence, and he'll love the crap out of you. Be ready.
More about Brooke
Brooke is the kind of gal that makes anyone in the room feel comfy in their own skin, and then creates a wonderfully safe space for them to shed it. She's got swagger for days and a keen eye for design. Everything she does stinks of pure gold because if she knows she is capable, she will get it done. She's a sucker for Mexican food and chocolate chip cookie dough, a magnificent baker, friend, outdoor connoisseur, and never limits happy to an hour, especially when there's wine.
